Details
KanonKop, nestled among the picturesque hills of Stellenbosch, is one of South Africa’s most renowned estates. It began estate-bottling its first wines in 1973 yet had been providing grapes to the local cooperative for many decades prior. Their moniker, KanonKop, originates from a hillock on the Simonsberg mountain overlooking the vineyard. Centuries ago, a cannon would sound from the hill to announce the arrival of ships into Table Bay, alerting farmers to start the 50km journey to the harbour and exchange their produce for goods.
Tasting Note: Bright red in colour, with a purple hue. This Pinotage offers bold plums, blackberries, with layers of liquorice, smoke, roasted nuts and rich vanilla on the nose. Followed by a palate packed with plums, black and red cherries, and dark chocolate, and spicy oak, The integrated and plush ripe tannins together with the satisfying acidity results in a balanced wine with a long finish, promising great maturation potential.
