Details
The 2013 R. López de Heredia “Viña Tondonia” Reserva is a masterclass in patience. This historic estate is famously the most traditional in Rioja, releasing their “Reserva” wines only when they believe they have reached a state of graceful maturity—often a decade or more after the harvest.
Tasting Note: Light fresh nose with notes of vanilla and dried berry aromas. Rich, very dry on the palate with smooth, developed Rioja characteristics of cigar box and dark forest berries. Firm tannins and good balance. An exceptional wine.
Appellation: Rioja DOCa, Spain
Vintage: 2013
Style: Red
Grapes: Tempranillo, Garnacho
Vinification: The grapes are fermented in large, 100-year-old oak vats using only indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for 6 years in handmade American oak barrels (crafted in the estate’s own cooperage).
Alcohol: 13%
Farming: Sustainable / Historic Estate Vineyards
Allergens: Sulphites
Pairing suggestion: Lamb, quail, jamón, Manchego.
